Upland Hills School did this race to raise money for the Adventure Playground course. With the money that we got, we hope to maintain the course, train instructors, and bring other schools to use the course. We brought the first school in on May 31st 2018!
Race Report by Jack
People started arriving at Upland Hills farm at 7:00 am to start to help set up. At 8.45 am the runners started to warm up and stretch. The people that were in the fun run set off at 9:00 am. Shortly after the 10K started. Once the 10K people cleared off the 5K people set off. When everybody got to the finish line there were healthy snacks like grapes and bananas and a great water station. The volunteers were very friendly and nice.
UHS Trail Run by Lauren
Some of the earliest people to arrive were at Upland Hills Farm at 7:00 am. The early people were mostly volunteers from 7:00 am to 8:00 am. We were setting up from putting all the trash cans in place to handing out chips. Soon the marshals got in place. The schedule was Fun Run and Toddler Trot, then 5K then 10K. We tried to do it with as little waste as possible. In the end all the non-recyclable waste was 14 ounces - YAY! It was a fun experience for all ages.
The 5k and 10k course by Taj
The course was hard, but good. Some of the 5k was uphill, part of it was HOT, part of it was muddy and the rest was downhill. In the 10k, part of the trail was flooded, so you had to go around, and there were ducks swimming! 95% of the race was the forest. The race started at the farm, went through part of Bald Mountain, then through some of the Upland Hills Trails and back to the farm.
Water Stations by Aurora
Me and my family were marshals at water stations. We handed water and grapes to passing 5Kers and 10Kers. We arrived at 8am to get to our water stations. We had one hour to fill all the water cups and pick apart the grapes. The 5K people came through after the 10K people.
The Zero Waste program by ?
The zero waste program was a very good idea. There was this tent where it had three holes in it. One hole was for compost and the other hole was for trash and the last hole was for recycling. The tents were scattered all around the farm. After the race there were two big bags of compost, two bags of recycling and one tiny bag of trash. There was 14 ounces of trash, and most of the trash was things people brought.
